ALFA ROMEO'S GOLDEN ERA

Giuseppe Busso spent over three decades at Alfa Romeo, shaping the engines that defined the marque's golden era. After a spell at Ferrari in its earliest days, he returned to Milan and led engine design through the Giulietta, Giulia, and Alfetta years — including the legendary Nord twin cam, the all-alloy four that powered Alfas for four decades.

His masterpiece came in 1979: a 60° V6 with an aluminium block, chrome intake runners, and a soundtrack nobody has matched since. It began as a 2.5-litre 12-valve in the Alfa 6, then grew through a quarter-century of evolution — 3.0-litre 12v, the 24-valve heads of the 916 GTV and 166, turbocharged in the 164 and GTV — before reaching its final and greatest form: the 3.2-litre 24-valve of the GTAs. He died in 2006, three days after the last Busso V6 left the production line.

THE ENGINE

THE 3.2 V6 — THE BUSSO'S FINAL FORM

The 147 GTA and 156 GTA carry the last and largest evolution of Busso's V6: 3.2 litres, 24 valves, 250 horsepower, and those six polished intake runners sitting proud in the engine bay.

Production ended in 2005 — the last and loudest chapter of Busso's engine, and the reason the 147 and 156 GTA remain two of the most charismatic Alfas ever built.

The factory moved on; the cars didn't. Two decades later, Alfa Romeo no longer makes many of the parts these cars need — new old stock is drying up, and good used parts are getting scarce and commanding hefty premiums. From the engine bay to the bodywork, the pieces every GTA eventually needs are exactly the ones getting hardest to find.

Busso Engineering is a small workshop run by GTA owners, for GTA owners. We model unobtainable parts from originals and remake them in modern materials — 3D printed engineering polymers and carbon fibre — plus the lightweight upgrades the factory never offered. Every part is test-fitted on our own cars before it's sold.
